Why is there an application?
As a TEDx licenced event, we are limited to 100 participants. Given significant demand in the community, we need to ensure that people attending are engaged in the topic, and can contribute effectively to the discussions.
Our application process is intended to give us a quick sense of your personal background, what ideas most interest you, and what attracts you to our event. If you're creative and inherently visual, you can even submit images, files, or videos as part of the application process (all of which are optional).
Beyond ensuring that you'll be an engaged participant, our application process does not seek to compare you to other participants. The first 100 eligible participants who apply will be accepted on a "first come" basis.
To facilitate our processing of applications, we are using the Review Room software, which is provided to us as part of the global TEDx Sponsor Marketplace. If you have any feedback on the process, please let us know by email, or by calling Jonathan at 403.826.1335.
Why is there a fee?
Simply put, events like this can be expensive to stage. Although as much as possible is covered off through sponsorships, it is still necessary for us to charge a small fee of up to $50 to help cover event costs. If the fee is a barrier to your attending, we have options to reduce or waive it.
All fees for TEDx events are pre-approved by the TEDx licencing organization, and are intended for cost recovery purposes only. Neither we nor TED/TEDx receive any profit from the fees, and all of our event costs are supplemented by cash or in-kind sponsorships from a range of organizations and businesses in our local community.
If you have any other questions or feedback, please email us or call Jonathan at 403.836.1335.
